1961
Takaetsu Shimizu establishes Shinwa Adrasive Corporation in a small industrial town in Tokyo. Sells abrasives, grinding wheels, polishing machinery and tools.

1966
A major US nail company orders a special nail file to fit their product. Shinwa develops a nail file with a buffer material to reduce damage to the nails. It become the first nail file in the world to use buffer material.
Nail files manufactured at the request of a major US nail brand. It is the birth of the first cushion-filled Nail File.
1975
Start production of grinding whetstone.
“Barban”, a grinding stone for hairdressing scissors, loved by professional hair stylists.
1976
Foot and nail files sell well in the USA and sales offices are set up in Los Angeles and New Jersey.

Establishes new factory in Mishima, Shizuoka, an entrance town to Mt Fuji.

Establishes Shinwa Corporation in Tokyo.

Becomes sole distributor of ibd products in Japan and obtained a license to manufacture and sell cosmetics.

Becomes sole distributor of SPARITUAL in Japan.
2010
Launches MITHOS, an original brand of nail brushes and files. Widely spread and supported by nail professionals throughout Japan.

Birth story of Buffer & Shiner
Takaetsu saw the abrasive waste by product during a break from his work at the factory and wondered, “Wouldn‘t this remove dirt from my hands, too?” rubbed his hands with that , and discovered that even his fingernails were shining. This was the birth of the buffer and shiner.
Compared to the chamois leather shiners of the time, it was a epoch-making product that required no polishing powder and was inexpensive.
